Description
The Cliffsnotes version of Bindweed’s story is basically about how, in a past life, Bindweed becomes jealous enough of another pony to frame them for the crime of black magic (which back in that time and in that particular kingdom was punishable by DEARRRRTH) and subsequently feels so guilty over orchestrating the murder that she ends up cursing her own soul for thirteen lifetimes as penitence. The curse has three aspects:
1. Using magic, even casting the most basic spells, causes pain in the form of a monstrous headache.
2. That, over each life time, she is made to feel the weight of her crime not only in immeasurable amounts of guilt but with the sensation of something pressing down on her back.
And, finally;
3. A spiritual essence that represents the darkest parts of her soul is bound to her. Like an astral projection or doppelganger, the essence will project outward every time she becomes close to someone and scare them off. It looks almost exactly like her except key elements are distorted and misshapen to serve as an outward manifestation of the darkness her soul carries. Bindweed cannot, however, see this thing and is unaware of its existence.
